Day 19 - 2 Miles

The alarm clock went off yesterday morning...once before I convinced myself I wasn't getting out of bed to run. This is the first time in 3 weeks that I couldn't get myself out the door. I beat myself up about it all day - disappointed that I didn't get up and get moving since my first 5K is in less than 2 weeks. I convinced myself to run that evening instead and it was a perfect night. I wish that I would have gotten out a few minutes earlier - by the end of my run it was dark out but either way I was glad I got up and moving. I also cut a couple minutes off my 2 mile time from last week, I really think that was because I knew it was going to get dark. Still feeling good and looking forward to running Wed. morning.

Day 17 - 1.5 Miles

My knee hurt today. Sharp pain in my left knee - right where the bottom of my scar is. Not happy about it at all but I came home and iced it and am feeling pretty good now. I pretty much set myself up for failure this morning. I went out and it was so humid and early for a Saturday that I wasn't happy about being out there. Done crying lol I did what I was supposed to do in a halfway okay time. Also got some time to video tape the clouds coming in from the hurricane. We are under a mandatory evacuation so the streets were empty! It was great :)

Day 15 - 2 Miles

I think I screwed up my Day numbers somewhere along the line so I jumped a couple days.

I'm so excited to have done 2 miles this morning. I really didn't think that I would ever get to this point and with such a slow pace (5 mph) I could have easily gone 3+. I ran down a different side street today for a change of scenery. Plus I don't end up quite as far away from home which starts getting me anxious anyway. Not that I'm scared but it just seems like I have SO far to run to get home it gets me doubting myself and than anxious.

The countdown to my first 5K is at 16 days. I can't believe how quickly it is coming up but my sister told me that if you can comfortably do 1/2 of the distance of the race that you'll be able to finish. I hope she is right because I don't think I will hit 3 miles prior to that run.

Longest Day Ever!

When I went into work Monday morning my boss sprung on me a trip to New York City for a marketing conference Wednesday and Thursday. I really don't mind conference's. I think you can learn a lot from getting out of the office and listening to others in your space. I wasn't overly excited about this trip though since I was only going up on Wednesday for the day and I knew it was going to be a ridiculously long day.

Our first session started at 9 am so in order to get there in time we had to be on the train at 5:15 am. This means a 3 am alarm this morning...are you kidding me? Of course I grabbed a red bull and ran out the door so when I got on the train there was no sleeping. The trip up was pretty easy though. The train was mellow and it was super easy to get a metro card and get up to the Hilton on 54th.  Stopped at Starbucks to grab a water and doughnut and headed to our conference.

The speakers were great. My favorite were the 2 founders of Stik.com. They were awesome presenters and even though it was a glorified infomercial for their business they had some really good information to provide. I think they were the favorite of most everyone at the conference (well everyone we talked to at least). I was a little disappointed because today wasn't the best day for networking and that was definitely something I was looking forward to.

We got back on the train around 3 pm and finally made it home at 7:30. Super tired but very excited to be home in time to see David and play for a little while. The next conference will either have to be closer or an overnight trip so I can get the networking out of it which is super important.

I'm headed to bed so I can get up in the morning and run...ugh. The first week and a half I was excited to get up and run but right now....not so much!

New Printer

The cost of ink w/my current printer is killing me! It wasn't a big deal until I actually started using it daily. Anyway, here is a stellar deal at Best Buy if you can swing it. I'm going to try it out tonight and see if it works.

Use This Coupon and take in your old printer for $50 toward the purchase of a new Kodak ESP printer. Supposedly the ESP 5210 is on sale at many stores for $50 which would mean a free wireless printer. I'll report back and let you know how it goes!

Day 11 - 1.75 Miles

I went to Jess & Geo's wedding last night and purposely didn't drink too much so I could wake up and go running this morning. Dan had filled the tires up on the stroller and I was excited to get out with David and enjoy the morning...MISTAKE! First, the hills in that neighborhood are more than I had anticipated. Second, David was not having fun - he complained the entire time and wanted to either get out or go back to Papa's house. Third, it was HOT! Today was supposed to be a 1.5 mile run and after just under a mile I gave up with David. Put him back in the house and ran another .8 by myself. So all in all I did 1 3/4 but I had to break it up. So much for running with David.

I have another 1.5 on Tuesday morning and at my house so I'm sure it will go much better than today.

Running, Life & the Weekend

It's 7:30 pm and David and I are sitting on the couch listening to the rain come down. We have no TV since the storm has killed the satellite so he sits here playing with his flashlight and I'm blogging. Dan is still at work...surprise surprise...I think he came home "on time" one day this week. eh, it gets to me but what can you do - it's why I hate the automotive business. You have to make the money while it's there because you don't know if there will be any tomorrow. Still stinks to spend the majority of your time together sleeping.

I went running this morning. 1.5 miles in 18:37 which is a minute and a half faster than Monday's 1.5. It was a tough run though. They were doing work at the school so I had to run farther down the street rather than running a couple laps through the parking lot. Anyway, I've had a headache ALL week - thinking that maybe it was my contacts I took them out last night to sleep. This morning I was too out of it to put them back in so I took off without them. Not only did I come about 1/2 a foot from stepping on a black snake (he wasn't very happy about how close I was and neither was I) but I also had severe anxiety about a man leaning on a telephone pole with his dog. I couldn't figure out why he was out at 6:30 am, why he was taking up the entire sidewalk and how I was going to get around him without the dog chasing me...damn people - or in this case mailbox (dog) and tree (man). Now in my defense the tree did lean against the telephone pole! Needless to say it will be the first and last run without my contacts lol.

The fear of the man with the dog though got me running faster and by the end of my run I was worn out. I have 4 more runs before I have to increase my distance so I'm pretty confident that I'll be feeling better with my 1.5 before than.

Tomorrow Dan and I are headed to Jess & Geo's wedding. I think we are all set - I've picked out a dress I already owned (total surprise) and Dan's suit is dry cleaned. Just need to get the boys haircuts tomorrow and we will be ready to go. David's hair is so long! I'm planning on running Sunday morning so it'll be a pretty tame night for me. I'll let you know how my run goes Sunday morning :)

Day 7 - 1.5 Miles

Yesterday was my day off. My ankle and shins hurt Saturday after my run so I decided a day off would be a welcome break and a new pair of shoes were probably in order. I had started running in my older Nike Shox which aren't bad but they were a little small for running. Luckily we live about 1/2 mile from the Adidas outlet and I found a pair pretty quickly.

I woke up this morning feeling great...tired but my body felt good. I ran a mile and a half and felt great afterward. No shin pain, no ankle pain. Looks like my new shoes did the trick. I'm still not pushing myself to the extreme so I know that I'm pacing myself pretty well. I messaged my Uncle Leny yesterday and he recommended a pretty simple schedule for the next month or so to get me to a full 5k by before October.

Tomorrow is a day off so I get to sleep in!

Day 5 - 1.07 miles

Woke up early again this morning since I knew Dan had to go work on cars today and I really wanted to run alone. I felt good from yesterday's run and knew I wouldn't run tomorrow.

I plan on running the same 1.07 for at least a week. I'm only going to work on bringing down my time. So by the end of next week I would like to have that mile down to 12 minutes. That's cutting a minute and a half off my time which may be a little unrealistic but you need to push yourself right?

After my run this morning my right ankle was pretty sore. I didn't ice it down after yesterday's run and paid for it this morning. I think with tomorrow off I should feel good for a Monday run. Otherwise I feel good.

Day 4 - 1.07 miles

I didn't run yesterday. I couldn't and from everything I've read in the beginning I really shouldn't be running daily. My soreness was bad yesterday but was much better this morning when I woke up. The shins were tender but not quite sore and my hips were doing great.

I slowed down my pace and the first half of my run went a lot better than Wednesday. I wasn't out of breath and was comfortable with the pace I was at. The second half was a little harder and I had to push myself to make it a mile. My goal was to hit a mile by Sunday so I'm just happy I made it no matter how long it took me!

ETA: I needed a new goal so my next one is at 2 miles I get to buy myself some running gear!

Feeling Defeat Already?

Long story short, a friend of mine asked if I would run the 5K race at The Baltimore Marathon with her. I haven't run at all in I would say 8 years. I ran the indoor track at the UMD gym for a couple years but it was carpeted and a little easier on my ankles (I have had 2 ankle reconstructions now). Anyway, I told her I would run Wednesday evening and see how it went and let her know.

I ran that evening - not far - with the stroller and ridiculous humidity. Everything went well. So I woke up early yesterday morning to go for another run but by myself and before it got nasty outside. Again, it went okay. I ran 3/4 mile in 8 1/2 minutes. So I told my friend that I was in for the 5k. Each run I iced my ankles. I was feeling good but by noon time the pain was starting to set in. Hips are the worst, shins, my feet were swollen and I didn't even want to think about running again...EVER! I knew I would be sore but I guess I thought it would be the "feel good" sore not that ow that hurts sore.

Uncle Leny gave me a link to a Couch to 5K program and while I was hoping to just start with my little 3/4 mile and start increasing my distance a little each day I do think I'm going to run every other day to give my body time to recover. Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow? I'll give it a week and see what kind of progress I'm making before I throw in the towel but last night I was ready to give up :(

Day 2 - 1.46 miles

Woke up bright and early this morning to get out and run before it got hot and humid. Jumped out on the road and ran to the corner of Evans and Main Street which is only .65 miles from the house but I ran through a couple parking lots rather than just the road so it was about .73 miles to the corner. I might have been able to go farther but didn't want to push it too much.

The first .25 went smoothly. I wasn't panting yet and I was keeping a pretty slow pace. The next .25 was a little harder and by the last part I was pushing myself to keep going. I did the .73 in 8 minutes and change. I was slightly proud of that and think maybe if I slowed it down a little I could get farther. I walked the same path home to cool down and well I had to get back home before the baby got up.

Still feeling good - I'm thinking of running tomorrow too. My goal is to hit a mile by Sunday.

Day 1 - .75 mile

I decided to start a running diary. More for myself than you all but hey if you are interested you are more than welcome to read (obviously I'm posting it on my blog).

I was so excited to start that I came straight home, changed out of my work clothes and loaded David up in the stroller. As I was walking out of the garage it started to drizzle but at that point there was no turning back. I made it to just past the Elementary School before I started walking. My guess is .30 miles. I walked out to the pond and showed David the water and gazebo before turning around. I continued walking past the Elementary School and ran probably another .20 miles home.

I was exhausted when I got home but felt good. Nothing hurt (except my lungs) so I will go back out in the morning when it isn't 90 degrees with 70% humidity.

So Much to Look Forward To!

I just have to say how much I love my life right now. Dan is happier at work, David is becoming more self-sufficient everyday and I can feel myself getting me back! Ah, now that I have a small taste of "Me" I'm having a hard time convincing myself that I want to throw it all away...but that's a whole other story.

Anyway, in 1 month Dan and I are headed to Cancun for a week. YAY!!! It will be our first vacation alone since we got married 4 years ago. I cannot wait to be able to relax and soak up the sun. David will be staying with Dan's parents and I know he will love that so it makes the whole trip that much better. It has been a long time coming and I know Dan will really enjoy the downtime too. He doesn't do downtime very well so I'm hoping that I can force him to relax on this trip.

We are also planning a short trip to Milwaukee this year. Well, we are hoping to be able to go and still trying to work out the logistics of the entire thing.

Plus we are already starting to think about our vacation for next year. Outer Banks!!! I'm really excited since we will be going with friends of ours and their little guy Logan. David and Logan are going to have so much fun together and it is vacations like this that stick with you forever. I remember all of the vacations that I took with my best friend Amanda growing up. We always had so much fun!

So, we have a lot to look forward to in the next year in addition to raising a little man, holidays with our families and all the other treats that come along with parenthood :) Completely Loving Life!!

Couponing Update

I did a TON of shopping last week but didn't post most pictures because the majority are Christmas gifts.

I had been stalking Target for a couple weeks waiting on the July toy clearance and hit the jackpot last Thursday. I was beyond excited when I walked in and saw the employees marking down the toys. So around I went picking up everything I wanted and headed over to the greatest Target employee who scanned and marked down every single one of the toys I picked out. Literally saved 75% on everything I bought (spent  and all of my toy purchasing for Christmas is done. Actually come to think of it I only have 3 people left to buy for and I'm D-O-N-E!!! How wonderful is it to be done before the end of August.

I'll be back to regular couponing tomorrow. Hitting up CVS for a few things and Rite Aid only to roll my store rewards. Slowly I have gotten better at grocery shopping. This past week saved 60% which included buying meat, bread, milk, eggs - you know the things that never seem to have coupons. One day I'll master the grocery store but until then I'll enjoy my 50%+ savings every week :)
